Georgia marked Georgian-Jewish friendship of 26 century with solemn jubilee. According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, 2014 is declared as a jubilee year for Georgian-Jewish relationship and 26 centuries old friendship. After 60 years of inaction, the history museum of Jewish of Georgia was restored and started a new life. As Prime Minister of Georgia declared during his speech on an opening ceremony, the museum played a great role in collection and promotion of spiritual and material cultural monuments of Jewish of Georgia.
He gave special thanks to Bidzina Ivanishvili, who took an obligation of restoration and repair of the museum and many Jewish cultural-religious monuments. Within the framework of the anniversary, the presentation of the books including "The Knight in the Skin of Panther" published in Jewish and illustrated by a painter Keti Matabeli, was held; A classic music concert by a piano player, Eliso Virsaladze was conducted, the film show "26 century friendship" was held, the Sport Palace hosted the opening of Karate "Maqabi" World cup ceremony.
As for an official part, Prime Minister of Georgia held the meeting with governmental and parliamentary delegations. He met with the president of the World Congress Of Georgian Jews, Gavriel Mirilashvili, the president of the European Council of Jews, Henry Erhentreu, an executive director of conference of European rabbis Moise Levin and main rabbis of world cities. During the celebration days, a business forum with participation of Jewish and Georgian business people was held. In the patriarchy of Georgia the Catholic-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia the II hosted the delegation.
Benjamin Netanyahu, a Prime Minister of Israel sent a congratulation letter regarding to the anniversary: "I would like to welcome the initiative of the representatives of Government of Georgia and the leaders of World congress of Georgian Jews, considering conducting of series of the events in order to celebrate 26 centuries anniversary. Shared values, cultural closeness and common interests are the basis for a special relationship between our nations. Your initiative reflects historical contribution of the community of Georgian Jews in Georgia. I am sure, that in future we will strengthen the bonds, and enrich the tradition of 26 centuries -old friendship between Jewish and Georgian people."
The World Congress President of Jew, Ronald Lauder commented on the significance of the celebration "We have lived with Georgians for two thousand six hundred years, we shared the fate of this blessed land and its wonderful people. And that's true, that we have never felt so natural and free in any society for such a long period. During the genocide of Jews (holocaust), in the darkest period of the humankind history, many Jews found the shelter in Georgia and Jews lived like sisters and brothers during their entire common history."
The delegation of 200 people visited Tbilisi for marking the 26 centuries anniversary on October 20 including the representative of executive and legislative governmental bodies, famous artists and scientists. The delegation was led by the President of World Congress Of Georgian Jews Gabriel Mirilashvili.
The celebration will be ended by the solemn concert planned in Shota Rustaveli State Theater and Visit to the sites of Tbilisi and Mtskheta. The organizer of the event was the administration of Government of Georgia.
